16 Dec TES-timonial from ICT Teacher Demmi
Demmi is an ex-TES teacher with a story to tell. After leaving Edge Hill University as a Newly Qualified Teacher in July 2013 she joined The Education Specialists as a cover supervisor until she graduated.
Shortly after graduating she was taken on as supply by a high school in Sefton, interviewed and asked to stay on until July 2014 – and she’s still there today on a permanent contract teaching GCSE Computing, A Level ICT and BTEC Level 3 ICT!
We caught up with Demmi to see how she’s getting on in her permanent contract and to ask her how TES were involved in her journey…
TES: So you’re still on a permanent contract, a little over two years after qualifying as a teacher. Firstly congratulations! Secondly, would you say that The Education Specialists helped you in securing this role?
Demmi: Well I wouldn’t have gotten the job without TES. It’s as simple as that. I wouldn’t have found the work, I wouldn’t have been able to impress the school and I wouldn’t have gotten the interview. Without TES I wouldn’t have this job.
TES: That’s lovely to hear, I’m sure you would’ve found something eventually, but it’s great that you made connections you wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. Sorry to put you on the spot, but, can you summarise the TES service in 3 words?
Demmi: Reliable, flexible and caring.
TES: What positives can you draw from your experience with TES?
Demmi: One of the main things for me would be that they work around you. Work was always available, I was never worrying about getting work or where and when the next vacancy was going to come – but they still made it convenient for me. I was always asked what I wanted, and they’d cater the jobs to me when they could (which was often). Another positive would be that working in different types of schools and different age ranges allowed me to gain a lot of valuable experience and especially develop my behaviour management skills – this varied experience definitely helped me to secure my current permanent contract.
I also gained experience in covering a lot of subjects other than my specialism (which is IT). So even though I wasn’t fully teaching these classes, I was able to gain a better understanding of a wide range of subjects which made me a more able and worthwhile cover supervisor.
TES: Is there any other feedback you can give us?
Demmi: I’d say that TES are so personal with you. Michelle would always ask after my family and remember my personal circumstances so I never felt like I was a burden when I wasn’t available for work. They were so caring. I didn’t feel like a number at TES.
TES: Would you give us a rating out of 5?
Demmi: 5, definitely. 100%.
