SEN Teaching Assistant – KS1 | Personal Care & Behaviour Support

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to a young person’s education and development?

The Education Specialists (TES) are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work within an Alternative Provision setting in Manchester, supporting a Key Stage 1 male pupil with additional needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a patient, resilient and nurturing TA who is confident supporting children with behavioural needs and personal care requirements.

The Role

You will work closely with the pupil and wider staff team to provide consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil with additional needs.
  • Supporting the pupil with personal care and daily routines.
  • Helping to manage and de-escalate challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
  • Developing a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil.
  • Supporting learning and engagement within the Alternative Provision environment.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, communication and social development.
  • Following individual support, behaviour and safeguarding plans.
  • Working closely with teachers and other professionals to ensure consistent support.
  • Providing a calm, structured and reassuring presence throughout the school day.

Hours & Timetable

The pupil is currently accessing a part-time timetable, meaning the successful candidate will initially work 3 days per week.

The timetable is expected to increase to full-time very soon, providing an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a longer-term, full-time position.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN.
  • Experience supporting behavioural needs, SEMH or challenging behaviour.
  • Confidence providing personal care where required.
  • A patient, calm and nurturing approach.
  • The ability to build strong relationships with children who may find school challenging.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Resilience and the ability to remain calm during difficult situations.
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.

Experience within Alternative Provision, PRUs, SEN schools or specialist settings would be highly desirable, although we will consider candidates with strong transferable experience.
